Service Description

A Walk Through Time (1hr) Available Mondays, Thursdays & Saturdays scenic walking tour we will travel through time to explore the story of Lough Swilly and Fort Dunree. Join us on a fascinating journey from the end of the last Ice Age to the arrival of the first inhabitants, to Dunree becoming the reputed royal seat of the McLaughlin Clan and a site of strategic and defensive importance during the Napoleonic, First and Second World Wars. Fort Dunree Sunset (1hr) Available Tuesdays & Fridays Dunree Head is one of the best places in Donegal, and Ireland, for sunsets. And also for seeing the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights as we call them here. A living Landscape (3-4hrs) Available on Mondays circular hiking route we will explore the national monument site and landscape of Mamore Gap which has been shaped not only by natural processes but also by the people who have lived here. As we ramble through this specular area we will look at the imprints left behind including a holy well and pilgrimage site; the ‘magic road’, a bottomless lake and a medieval boley or summer pasture area. We shall also explore the flora and fauna of the peat bogland. Wild Atlantic Mountain Lake Hike (3-4hrs) Available on Tuesdays Starting at sea level we will ascend 300 metres to two mystic mountain lakes nestled in the Urris Hills. The wild Atlantic will be our constant companion with stunning views of Fanad, Lough Swilly, North Inishowen and the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way we will hear some local stories, learn a bit of history, and get close to nature as we explore the local flora and fauna. A lunch stop with a panoramic view will beat the best restaurants in the world! Bog Safari (3-4hrs) Available on Saturdays authentic hiking experience will provide a fascinating insight into this unique and primeval landscape. As we journey through time, we will explore how the bog (or peatland) was formed, its myths and legends, an ancient monastic site; traditional turf cutting as well as the unique biodiversity of the bog and its role in the fight against climate change. Our lunch stop (morning tours) or snack break (afternoon tours) will be upon a hilltop with panoramic views of Lough Swilly and West Donegal. Please contact us for available times
